Iran becomes 2nd most innovative country in agricultural sector in Central, South Asia

TEHRAN – Iran has become the second most innovative country in Central and South Asia in the agricultural industry, said the head of the country’s Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization.

According to Mojtaba Khayam-Nekouei, Innovative Farms are one of the main components of the country’s innovation ecosystem in line with the implementation of Article (5) of the bylaws on supporting knowledge-based production in the agriculture and natural resources sector.

These farms were established to create a network of productive innovative farmers and use their capacities to accelerate the process of transferring and spreading innovative technologies in the production fields, Nekouei said.

Regarding the role of the innovation ecosystem in optimizing and improving the productivity of the agricultural sector, the official stated: “The ecosystem of agricultural innovation is the main topic of modern knowledge-based agricultural studies, and various surveys show that the development of science, technology, and innovation are considered as the main drivers of productivity and economic growth in the agricultural sector.”

“Considering the undeniable effects of innovation and innovative technologies on improving productivity in the agricultural sector, various countries have prioritized supporting the development of the innovation ecosystem to ensure the production, transfer, dissemination, and application of innovative technologies in this sector,” he added.
