PESHTIGO – Collins Aerospace plans to permanently close its Peshtigo facility by the end of the year, and roughly 100 people will be out of work, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed Monday with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
The company expects to begin laying off employees on or around July 28 and end operations at the facility, 701 Maple St., on or around Dec. 15, according to the notification filed by the company.
“Affected employees are not entitled to displace or ‘bump’ less senior employees at other locations,” the letter states.
When asked why the Peshtigo location is closing, a company spokesperson told the Green Bay Press-Gazette Wednesday, “Through regular evaluation of our business operations, Collins Aerospace has made the difficult decision to close” the Wisconsin facility.
“Peshtigo’s operations will be primarily consolidated into our existing Medley, Florida, and Colorado Springs, Colorado, locations,” the spokesperson said. “The transition is expected to begin in July and will be completed by the end of the year. Collins will work closely with our employees and treat them with respect throughout this process.”
As part of the Peshtigo closure, “100 positions will be eliminated, with 13 positions converting to remote work arrangements or relocated,” according to the spokesperson.
Peshtigo Mayor Cathi Malke told the Press-Gazette Wednesday that the closure is “unfortunate.”
“I worry about the 100 employees that will be looking for work,” Malke said. “Collins has been a great company for people to work for. They have been located in the city for decades and we always valued them as a great employer and supporters of the community. They will be missed.”
Malke added, “I have high hopes another company will purchase the building and take off where Collins left. The city of Peshtigo is here to help in any way possible.”
Collins Aerospace is a business of Raytheon Technologies and is a leader in serving the aerospace and defense industry, with more than 73,000 employees globally, according to the company’s website.
