SHELDON—The Sheldon Farmers Market has been underway for a few weeks.
The first day of the Sheldon Farmers Market was Monday, June 5, at the Sheldon Union Depot at 1200 Second Ave. The Farmers market will take play every Monday 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the depot until Aug. 28. The final Farmers Market will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Sheldon City park as part of Celebration Days.
“We have some great vendors that are excited for the Farmers Market,” said Sheldon chamber director Ashley Nordahl. “Be sure to mark your calendars for Mondays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and stop by to get your hands on some great local goods.”
Six vendors are signed up for the season:
- Jan’s Jams, which has vegetables, brownies and bars, breads, jams and jellies.
- Good Eetens Produce Farm, which has a variety vegetables, watermelon, breads, maple syrup and cut flowers.
- Farmer’s Makit, which has eggs, cookies, brownies and bars, breads, jams and jellies, cut flowers, herbs and dried spices, a variety of vegetables and watermelon.
- JMH Handmade, which as handmade children’s clothing and accessories and women’s and men’s clothing by custom order.
- Croatt Family, which has bars, miniature pies, flower seeds, macramé items and a variety of crocheted items including stuffed animals.
- Little Rock River Mercantile, which has meals in a jar, freeze dried candy, fruits and vegetables.
The popcorn machine is once again be fired up and ready to go for the Farmers Market.
The Farmers Market Coalition and the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach brought back the Power of Produce Club again this year. The POP Club provides the opportunity for children to learn about the local food system and for participating in activities at the Farmers Market. The children will get tokens and they can purchase their own produce with it.
