Earlier this week, Warren General Hospital experienced a “computer-related event,” according to Director of Marketing and Communications Mary Ridout.
She said it was addressed and there “has been no impact on patient care.”
Outside attacks on hospital information systems have become common in recent years.
According to an IBM report from earlier this year, the healthcare industry was the hardest hit by cyberattacks in the year ending this March. Overall, incidents cost on average $11 million each according to the report. It was the 13th straight year healthcare reported the most expensive cybersecurity issues.
Over the summer, a cyberattack resulted in a data security breach impacting hospitals in five states, including Pennsylvania. The attack disrupted services including emergency rooms and primary care services.
During the annual meeting of the boards of WGH, new security solutions to combat attacks were highlighted, including multi-factor authentication and new antivirus detection and response systems being implemented.
