Wade Miley takes loss in Brewers finale vs. Phillies

MILWAUKEE — Immediately after the ball left J.T. Realmuto’s bat, Brewers starter Wade Miley hung his head.

Miley’s cutter got too much of the plate and Realmuto hit it a Statcast-projected 443 feet for a go-ahead home run off the American Family Field scoreboard — just moments after Alec Bohm had led off the seventh inning with a shot of his own.

The back-to-back homers spoiled the Brewers’ bid for a sweep, as they dropped a 4-2 decision against the Phillies on Sunday afternoon.

Games remaining: at PIT (3), at NYY (3), vs. MIA (4), vs. WAS (3), at STL (4), at MIA (3), vs. STL (3), vs. CHC (3)

Standings update: The Brewers hold a 3 1/2-game lead over the Cubs atop the National League Central. With head-to-head records determining a potential tiebreaker, the clubs are tied 5-5 with three games remaining in the season series.

Miley was charged with four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in 6 1/3 innings. The veteran lefty carried a no-hit bid through 5 2/3 innings.

The Brewers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on William Contreras’ solo homer, then Mark Canha added another in the third. But Milwaukee finished 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.
