A Second Chance: Bankrupt Retail Brand Set to Reopen Stores in New Jersey

There is some good news for fans of the retail brand buybuy BABY with the announcement this week that eleven stores will reopen in the northeast.

The baby retail brand sold clothing, strollers, and other items for use with infants and young children and was owned by retailer Bed Bath & Beyond, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. This resulted in 115 stores closing across the country and a bankruptcy auction taking place.

Last month, Dream on Me Industries, a New Jersey-based retailer and one of Buy Buy Baby’s former suppliers, bought buybuy Baby’s intellectual property.

At the time of the acquisition, it was expected that buybuy BABY would become an online brand sold only via a website. However, Dream on Me’s chief marketing officer, Avish Dahiya, has advised they plan to reopen eleven former stores in the northeast this fall.

And even in better news, they have plans to open up to 120 stores over the next three years,

“We definitely see merit, in expanding to that number across the U.S. Similar to what we have done in the Northeast, it will be more cluster-based versus one-off.” Dream on Me’s chief marketing officer, Avish Dahiya

According to CNBC, “revamped Buy Buy Baby is envisioning registry events and product displays that will allow new parents to meet each other, learn from each other, and test out big-ticket items like travel strollers before making a purchase.”
