Jaysen Akahi-Vida of Lahainaluna High School and Yuna Lee of Maui Preparatory Academy have each been awarded a $32,500 scholarship from the Construction Industry of Maui.

Lee, who will attend Gonzaga University, and Akahi-Vida, who will attend Whitworth University, received the Bob Poulson Scholarship awards during a banquet on May 24.

The Bob Poulson Scholarship encourages local students to pursue a construction-related degree out of state and then bring their acquired knowledge and skills back to Maui, according to a news release. The scholarship was created in Poulson’s honor and has awarded $200,000 to date.

Recipients of the scholarship must graduate from a high school on Maui and be entering a two- or four-year degree program in construction, engineering, landscaping and/or other design fields.
