Here are the top three stories in The Haddams-Killingworth today:

  1. The famous Gillette Castle will reopen its doors to the public on May 27, but some guests can have access a bit earlier as part of the Friends of Gillette Castle State Park volunteer organization’s soft opening. At the soft opening, guests can explore the property, including the castle’s interior. The castle is well-known for being the home of a playwright and actor known for the “Sherlock Holmes” series. Entry will be free for members during the soft opening and $5 for non-members. (Torrington Register Citizen)
  2. The owner of the nearby Beaumont Farm, Billy Beaumont, asks for the thieves who stole part of his popular M&M display to return it. Beaumont noticed this week that the yellow M&M in the display was missing and caught thieves attempting to steal the purple M&M next. The caramel M&M was the first to be stolen. (WTNH.com)
  3. The fourth annual Water Lantern Celebration will be postponed due to the inclement weather predicted for Saturday, May 20. The celebration will be moved to Sunday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Plattwood Park. There will be hundreds of hand-decorated lanterns on display in the pond and food, music, and decorating areas will be available. The celebration is pay-what-you-can, and all Connecticut students have free admission. (HK Now)
